Low Budget Problems

While I looked at a lot of shorts and found a few that were in one way or another an influence, I found a short I have watched before called "1 Minute Time Machine".

This 10 minute short follows the numerous attempts of James to pursue Regina with the help of a small time machine that only travels 1 minute into the past. I found that this was extremely clever and creative. This gave me the idea that if I made something with a similar mechanic there would be plenty of opportunities for situations gone wrong to be redone with a different choice. This would give me the opportunity to try new things and perhaps collaborative piece.

Using an inspiration like this one will allow me to do a sci-fi short without elaborate special effects that usually are associated with science fiction like in the short I mentioned in my previous post "Time Trap" where everything is super high quality with impressive digital effects. It will allow me to explore ways to create the fictional world with the minimum amount of effects needed.

Finding the THING

To start myself off with some ideas I went on a little research journey around youtube, I discovered a short film called "Time Trap" about a stranded space traveler who needs to fix their trip.

 

I thought the story was really interesting and I wanted to see if I can find any other videos in a similar field that could provide me with new ideas and I found a sketch which I've seen before from a channel under the name "Tomska". The channel already has a lot of sci fi type sketches but one in particular caught my eye with a premise of time travel and alternate universes.

I decided that this is the direction I would want to go if I were to create a proposal for my short and I will continue my research into this genre.

The Lazarus

As an introduction to my blog I will be researching information for my ideas and learning more ways to improve my craftsmanship through videos, articles, short films online and educational videos that discuss in detail the art of film making. I hope this will help me track my progress, allons-y.
